July 31: Bellflower

Sunday, July 31 at the Farm

Bellflower — indie/alternative folk – gate at 7 pm  – show at 7:30

The sound of Montreal band Bellflower, led by singer-songwriter Em Pompa, is rare, rich and powerful. Driven by the soul and ingenuity of eight elite musicians, it conveys a soft vastness that absorbs the listener and quiet strength born of an enduring union. While not quite orchestral pop nor alternative folk, the ensemble’s music unfolds somewhere between the hybrid and the seductive complexity of Sufjan Stevens’ neo-pop. The music is rich, ambient and rhythmic. Em’s poetry is beautifully enhanced by the refined musical writing, in which the vocal harmonies and horn section bring an irresistible orchestral charisma to her melodious voice.

After releasing their first album The Lotus Factor in 2013, the band performed at various festivals, notably Vue sur la relève–where they received no less than 12 Coups de pouce prizes–and the very select Mundial in 2015. Hot on the heels of this success, the band now presents The Season Spell, a strong second album released in spring 2016.

Em Pompa — vocals
William Côté — drums, percs, guitars
Félix Felp Petit — sax
Jérémi “Chienvoler” Roy — bass, synth bass

“Blown away by the feelings of this magnificent first album … this Montreal band truly is one of a kind . . .  Having seen the group perform twice, I can assure you, Bellflower is very much like a huge party that soothes the soul! —Rreverb.com
