To celebrate families on Hornby Island, the Festival puts on multiple events for kids, moms and dads, and grandpas and grandmas :). Please join us for these affordable and lifetime memory-making events!
Thursday, August 2nd – 5-6pm at the Hall
Art Show Opening
For the past couple of months, a handful of Hornby kids have been paired with some of the island’s best visual artists to develop their skills and partake in a group art show. The adult artists have volunteered to mentor these budding artists by sharing knowledge, experimenting with painting, and learning core techniques and styles. While the Art Show will be available for viewing through the Festival, join us on Opening night to meet the kids and mentors! This is a free event.
Saturday, August 4th – 10-11 am and 1-2pm at the Farm
Songwriting Workshop with Norman Foote, followed by performance.
Do register for this unique and fun songwriting workshop. Kids and adults will learn how to compose songs in a fun and engaging way. After lunch, participants will also get to get on the Festival stage and perform their creation. Everyone welcomed, guaranteed laughs.
Sunday, August 5th – 12:30-1:30pm
Sing Along with the Electric Sex Panther family!
Electric Sex Panther is a collective of artists who love playing soul, jazz, rnb, and hip hop. They add poetry and paint colour on their music wherever they can. Come join them to sing along with some familiar tunes, listen to some family-friendly freestyles, and hear some original music by the bandleader Kiaran Alexander Lee McMillan. K.A.L.M will be joined by singer Amber Landry, brother Gaelan, and emcee duo extraordinaire Lucas Bell and Alexa Verstraten.
Tuesday, August 7th – Noon-1:00pm
Wooly Bears with Professor Banjo – FIDDLE DANCE
Come shake your feet and swing your partner to the Wolly Bears old-time string band! Professor Banjo will be our square dance caller, teaching dances that are fun and easy for the whole family and friends!
