They quickly moved on to probably the most emblematic traditional Mexican toy of all, tablitas magicas. A game of interlocking wooden tablets, the toy creates a hypnotizing illusion when it’s handled correctly—as Daria Kasatkina quickly discovered in one particularly hilarious part of the video.
“Bloody hell!” the mesmerized Russian player said in Spanish, before dubbing the toy “magical”. The players also tried some taka taka, a game of clacking balls, and did their best with a bit of balero, a traditional Mexican wooden cup-and-ball game—to varying degrees of success.
Special mention to Leylah Annie Fernandez, though, who should get bonus points for her impeccable pronunciation throughout the video.
The Canadian, who has Uruguayan and Filipino heritage, frequently delights Latin American crowds with her great Spanish, and she was wisely chosen to narrate and name the toys—though when it came time to demonstrate how to play them, she seemed just as in the dark as everyone else.
