Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder is not wanted by the team’s fans even if the team wins. During their home game against the Green Bay Packers, thousands of fans made one thing clear to Snyder through chants and shouts: “Sell the team”.
This statement from the fans was met in particular by Snyder’s wife, Tanya, who, appearing on the FedEx Field screen before the game, was greeted by choruses of “Sell the team!”, which added to several banners with the same phrase that appeared in the stands.
Snyder could be ousted as team co-owner
The chants come just days after Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay signaled that Snyder should be removed from his position. Dan Snyder has threatened to reveal several secrets from other team owners, as well as commissioner Roger Goodell, if he is forced out of office.
Snyder is accused of instigating and condoning workplace misconduct at the franchise. The NFL launched an investigation into the franchise after a report by The Washington Post detailed accounts from 15 former female employees alleging sexual harassment by various employees over the course of 18 years.
Tanya adds fuel to the fire by cheering for Redskins
Before the game began, Tanya Snyder gave a speech honoring team legends like Art Monk, Doug Williams and Mark Rypien. But she ended it with a “Hail To The Redskins!,” a reference to the team’s old name, which for years caused unrest among Native American groups.
Washington dropped the Redskins name in 2020, and played for a couple of years as the Washington Football Team until, in early 2022, it was announced that the franchise’s new name is Commanders.
