The Seahawks are surpassing all expectations in 2022 and are atop of the NFC West with a solid 5-3 record. And all after facing mockery during the entirety of the offseason for having a QB room of Geno Smith and Broncos outcast Drew Lock. But the Seattle franchise is proving that the departure of former star Russell Wilson may have actually been a blessing.
This sentiment was made clear by wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who threw a message aimed at Wilson after their (13-27) win over the Giants: “It’s amazing what we can accomplish when no one cares who gets the credit, my high school coach always said that.”
What’s even more telling is that Lockett’s words were accompanied by strong nods by Smith and DK Metcalf. Geno Smith was Russell Wilson’s backup last season and worked closely with the 33-year old QB.
Why it’s clear that Lockett’s shot was directed at Russell Wilson
The Seahawks have virtually the same offensive pieces as last year with the exception, of course, of Wilson. After the star QB’s trade to the Broncos, many allegations of being a subpar teammate have risen to the surface. Like former Legion of Boom members Richard Sherman and Marshawn Lynch, who confirmed that they still don’t have Russell Wilson’s number.
Another former teammate, Michael Robinson, accused him of being a “robot” and that he needed to change his approach if he didn’t want to lose the locker room.
The Seahawks will travel to Arizona to face the Cardinals on Sunday Nov. 6th (4:05 pm ET) and will try to keep up their momentum in this, so far, more than positive start to the season.
