After a 2-5 start, Steve Nash is no longer the Brooklyn Nets‘ head coach. On Monday night against the Indiana Pacers, the Nets prevailed in Nash’s final contest. Only a few hours before their home game against the Chicago Bulls, he is departing the squad.
Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that Nash has been let go, contrary to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN who claims that Nash has been dismissed. In any case, Nash’s turbulent time as the Nets’ head coach is gone.
According to Charania, Jacque Vaughn will serve as Brooklyn’s interim head coach when they play the Bulls on Tuesday night.
Steve Nash failed to meet the expectation
Over a little more than two seasons, Nash led the Nets to a 94-67 record. Expectations were considerably higher than reality. Brooklyn advanced past the first round of the NBA Playoffs in 2021, although Nash only managed to win one playoff series.
The Nets were considered the favorites to win the championship going into the 2021-2022 season, but they failed to win a single postseason game before the Boston Celtics swept them out of the first round.
During his offseason trade demand this past summer, Kevin Durant reportedly requested Nash’s dismissal.
