Eric Wahl, brother of U.S. journalist Grant Wahl, denied on Sunday that Grant had been murdered after he died suddenly in a hospital in Doha on Friday, after being present at the game between Argentina and the Netherlands in the quarterfinals of Qatar 2022.
Now, with a message on his Twitter account, he assured that he trusts that the U.S. Government will help him explain why his brother died. Already more serene he wrote:
“As soon as I heard about his death the first thing I thought was that he had been murdered. I based it on things G said the last two times I talked to him. But obviously I don’t know anything for sure.”
What did Grant Wahl’s brother say about the journalist’s death?
Eric Wahl claimed on Instagram on Friday that his brother was healthy and that death threats were hanging over him, so he simply didn’t believe that his brother had died just like that, but that in his opinion he was murdered.
Now, he simply asked for a reprieve for that video posted while he was still in “shock” over the tragic news: “Our family will await word from the US doctors and we trust that the people in the US Government we have been in contact with are doing everything they can to help us get answers.”
Grant Wahl’s health problems
He also acknowledged that his brother had acknowledged he had health problems. Grant posted on his blog Monday that he had health problems in recent days and received treatment in Qatar for a diagnosis of bronchitis.
“My body has finally fallen apart. Three weeks of little sleep, high stress and a lot of work can do this to you,” he said in describing what appeared to be “a cold” that complicated into something “more severe” on the night of the U.S.-Netherlands round of 16 match.
Suspicion arose, however, after Doha authorities banned him from entering the stadium wearing a rainbow T-shirt in support of LGTBIQ+, for which he was even arrested for a few hours.
In the deleted video, his brother also pointed out that he is gay and Grant Wahl wore that shirt as a show of solidarity.
