The Chicago Cubs have signed shortstop Dansby Swanson to a seven-year, $177 million deal, according to ESPN reporter Jeff Passan.

The contract also includes a clause that does not allow the infielder to be traded, according to Russell Dorsey of Bally Sports. In addition to the Illinois team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves (his former team) were also vying for the player.

Swanson was one of the elite shortstops available on the market and was the last to agree to a deal. Besides him, Carlos Correa, Trea Turner and Xander Bogaerts were also signed by the San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres, respectively. The combined contract values exceed the sum of $1 billion.

A World Series champion for the Atlanta team in 2021, the right-handed hitter hit 25 home runs and hit 27.7% at bat. In addition to 177 hits, 96 hits batted in, and 99 runs scored.

In addition to the former No. 7 of the Braves, the Cubs also signed outfielder Cody Bellinger (ex-Dodgers), pitcher Jameson Taillon (ex-Yankees) and reliever Brad Boxberger (ex-Brewers) in free agency.
