Aaron Carter, who was found dead at his home at the age of 34 on Saturday, had a complicated relationship with his family throughout his life.
The late singer is the brother of Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter and Aaron often toured with the boyband in the 90s and early 2000s.
Violent intentions
However, tensions which had always been there, were further strained when Aaron did not attend Nick‘s wedding in 2014. Then, in 2019, both Nick and sister Angel filed for and were granted a restraining order against Aaron.
“After careful consideration, my sister Angel and I regret that we were required to seek a restraining order against our brother Aaron today,” Nick tweeted at the time.
“In light of Aaron‘s increasingly alarming behavior…we were left with no choice but to take every measure possible to protect ourselves and our family.
“We love our brother and truly hope he gets the proper treatment he needs before any harm comes to himself or anyone else.”
Nick had also said he believed Aaron had “intentions” to kill his then-pregnant wife Lauren Kitt. Aaron publicly denied the accusations, but was ordered to stay at least 100 feet away from the family and their Las Vegas home at all times.
Abuse accusations
As well as accusing Nick of bullying him his whole life, Aaron also made serious accusations against their sister Leslie in 2019. Leslie Carter died of a drug overdose in 2012 at the age of 25.
Aaron claimed that Leslie sexually abused him as a child as a result of not taking her bipolar medication. He seems to have forgiven her, however, as he got a tattoo done in her honor earlier this year.
The blue butterfly on his forehead was a tribute to Leslie, as he revealed on his social media accounts in March. Aaron is survived by his son Prince.
