
Iga Swiatek has been named the European Sportsperson of the Year, topping a survey of 20 news agencies done by Poland’s Press Agency.
Among those polled, the 21-year-old Swiatek received 118 votes, ten more than second-placed pole vault champion Armand “Mondo” Duplantis and 36 more than third-placed F1 champ Max Verstappen. There were 58 athletes nominated, representing 19 sports.
Prior to Swiatek, three athletes from Poland had previously won the award.
