Manchester United needed a late Casemiro header to earn a 1-1 Premier League draw against Chelsea on Saturday.
The Blues thought they had earned all three points after Jorginho calmly converted a penalty in the closing minutes of the game, only for the former Real Madrid man to score his first goal for the Red Devils in stoppage time.
United started strongly and came close to opening the scoring in the seventh minute.
The visitors found some space down the left after some nice one-touch passing, allowing Luke Shaw to fire from the edge of the area but just wide of the mark.
Antony fired a shot just past the far post from a short corner, while Chelsea responded via Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang‘s shot from the edge of the area that missed the mark.
The away side had a chance to open the scoring before the end of the first half after Bruno Fernandes picked out Antony with a lovely through ball, but the Brazilian sent his effort just wide of the mark.
There was decidedly less action after the restart until the 72nd minute, when Chelsea came within inches of opening the scoring.
Trevor Chalobah rose above his marker from a corner, but his header cannoned off the bar.
With five minutes remaining Chelsea were awarded a penalty after Scott McTominay rugby tackled Armando Broja in the penalty area.
Jorginho stepped up and kept his cool, firing past David de Gea.
Just when it looked like the Blues were headed for all three points, Manchester United managed to steal a point thanks to Casemiro‘s first goal for the club.
Kepa pushed the Brazilian’s precise header onto the post, but the ball just crossed the line to give the Red Devils a dramatic equaliser.
The result means Chelsea now sit on 21 points from 11 matches, one point more than United.
Bruno Fernandes rues missed chances
With the late equaliser earning United a point, feels Bruno Fernandes his team could have been well ahead after their first half performance.
“We had chances in the first half and could have been 2-0 up,” Fernandes told Sky Sports.
“They got the goal from the penalty but we kept fighting. We got the point, it isn’t what we want but we never gave up.
“The best chances we had we couldn’t score. We kept fighting and working.
“It was a great cross from Luke Shaw and a great header by Casemiro. We know he has that, he scored many goals against Real Madrid. It was a fantastic goal.
