Liga MX is still in preseason, however, one of its best players, Tigres UANL’s Andre-Pierre Gignac was rushed to the hospital after being hit by a ball in the back of the head in the game against Santos Laguna in Copa por Mexico.
How did Andre-Pierre Gignac’s injury happen?
The French striker received a blow to the back of the neck, which at the time appeared to be nothing to worry about, but minutes later he threw himself to the turf and asked to be changed. When he was walking off the field, Gignac doubled over and began to vomit. He recovered and when he got to the bench he vomited, but he didn’t stop there when he was already seated he vomited again.
This set off the red lights in Tigres’ medical staff, so they decided to take Gignac to a hospital in an ambulance for a thorough check-up and to rule out any eventuality.
Coach Diego Cocca reports that Gignac is fine
The first thing I asked Tigres’ coach, Diego Cocca, was about the health of the French striker. The Argentine tactician was calm and commented that taking him to the clinic was only routine.
“He went for studies as a precaution, especially because it was a ball,” said Cocca. “He kind of felt like vomiting on the bench and it worried all of us, but they are normal symptoms. The doctor is very hopeful that it’s nothing and that it’s just a scare“.
Tigres and Santos drew in the preseason match
In what was Tigres and Santos’ last game in the Copa por México, the two teams ended in a one-goal draw.
The first goal of the match was scored at minute 36 by Sebastian Fierro, who put the felines ahead. In the second half, at minute 54, the Argentine Marcelo Correa beat Miguel Ortega to give the Guerreros the equalizer.
In the end, the score remained as it was and the two teams were ready for the Clausura 2023, which begins in a few days.
