The same stadium that saw Pele dominate rivals and score goals in many ocassions, will now serve as the spot where the public will be able to pay tribute and say goodbye to the best Brazilian player to ever live.
The Vila Belmiro Stadium, home of the Santos FC, the team where Pele spent most of his career, will host the funeral service on Monday and Tuesday, just outside Sao Paulo.
Pele, who’s name is Edson Arantes Do Nascimento, lost a long battle against cancer this Thursday, at 82 years old.
Santos will pay tribute to the legend of Pele
Santos FC’s history cannot be told without talking about Edson Arantes Do Nascimento “Pele”, that’s why they announced that a casket with the body of their late superstar will be placed at midfield on Monday January 2nd, starting at 10 a.m.
This funeral service will last 24 hours, up until 10 a.m. the next day, with the coffin being carried around the streets of Santos afterwards, eventually passing in front of the house of “O Rei’s” mother Celeste.
Despite media reports from Brazilian outlets stating that she’s laying in bed and isn’t very lucid these days. She is 100 years old.
Pele’s body will be burried at the Memorial Necrópole Ecumênica, a vertical cementery in Santos, but only family will be allowed in the premises.
