Sergio “Kun” Agüero thanked Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez for his congratulations and closed the controversy with the Mexican boxer for attacking Lionel Messi during the World Cup.
“Thank you very much, Canelo,” Agüero responded to the congratulations of the Jalisco boxer. “The past, is in the past. Clean slate and new account”. So basically, they “buried the hatchet.”
The controversy between Kun and Canelo arose after the Mexican launched a series of tweets in which he exploded against Lionel Messi for allegedly kicking the shirt of the Mexican team after his match in Qatar 2022.
Kun is Messi’s best friend and he loves him. defended against Canelo’s tweets, explaining the situation with the shirts in the locker room.
“Mr. Canelo, don’t look for excuses or problems, surely you don’t know about football and what happens in a locker room,” said Kun. “The shirts always, after the games are over, are on the floor due to sweat and then if you see well, he makes the movement to remove the booty and accidentally hits it.”

Despite the explanation, Canelo called him a hypocrite for his way of speaking to him in previous days. After the exchange, Kun recounted during one of his Twitch streams that he was messaging Saúl and that he had even invited him to one of his fights.
A couple of days after the comments against Messi and after being criticized by several Argentine and international sports personalities, Canelo apologized.
“I made comments that were out of place for which I want to apologize to Messi and the people of Argentina,” Saúl tweeted. “Every day we learn something new and this time it was my turn.”
Agüero was not part of the squad for Argentina that emerged world champion, but he remained very close to the group and even celebrated on the field after the victory over France on penalties.
