Alex Krassyuk, representative of Oleksandr Usyk, assured that Tyson Fury rejected the offer they made him to fight against the Ukrainian to unify the heavyweight belts.
“Fury did not accept the fight when I offered it to him more than a year ago,” the representative said in an interview on the YouTube channel, ESNEWS. “The offer came from the Saudis and the fight was proposed to him, although now he says that it is not true.”
According to Krassyuk, Usyk and Fury were slated to make the unification, while their rivals at the time were willing to step aside for them to unify all four heavyweight belts (WBA, IBF, WBO and WBC). However, the agreement did not come to an end and both had to fulfill their commitments.
“Dillian Whyte was going to step aside, Anthony Joshua was ready to step aside and everything was going in a good direction,” Krassyuk said. “I can’t say he was scared, but I think he took advice not to go too early for Usyk.”
Usyk returned from the war in Ukraine and began preparing for his first defense against AJ on Saudi soil, while Fury prepared for his return to England in a historic defense against Dillian Whyte at Wembley.
Fury did not want to unify the titles
Both won their fights and the rumor of a new unification began to sound loud in recent weeks. Fury called him a coward in interviews and continued to mock him for his size in the category.
Despite this, Usyk and his team did not remain silent and sent a message to the British where they showed their surprise at the decision to fight Derek Chisora on December 3.
“We don’t understand the Chisora thing,” Krassyuk said. “Fury is a great fighter, but he says he wants the big fights and now he will do his third fight with him.”
Although for now Usyk does not have a future rival in mind, he takes things calmly and prefers to wait for Fury to comply, and then reach an agreement.
