Baseball, the main pastime of American families, reaches all spheres of society, Joe Biden, president of the United States, took advantage of a rally in Florida to joke with the Philadelphia Phillies fans.
Famous for being fanatical, the fans of the Philadelphia franchise were called “loud” and “obnoxious” by Biden. The joke was meant to tease the first lady, Jill Biden.
The first lady is not participating in the campaign and is expected to be present at Game 4 of the World Series between the Houston Astros and the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday.
“Phillies fans are the loudest, nastiest fans in the world,” Biden said during a campaign in Florida.
Biden grew up in Pennsylvania and often jokes about his wife being “a Philadelphia girl” and his fanaticism for rooting for local franchises.
“Like every Philadelphia fan, she’s convinced that she knows more about everything in sports than anyone else,” Biden said in September when he hosted the defending MLB champion Atlanta Braves.
Biden “forced” to support Philadelphia Phillies
Also in the campaign discussion, the US President added that if he didn’t root for the Philadelphia franchises, he would be sleeping alone.
Philadelphia fans have a lot to celebrate, the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles are the only undefeated franchise, the Philadelphia Union is playing in the MLS CUP, the Phildelphia Flyers are doing well in the NHL, and the Phildelphia 76ers are the attraction of the NBA.
In the MLB, the Phillies have surprised and made it to the World Series. So far they are ahead in the race, with two wins and one loss against the Astros.
Whoever wins the 2022 World Series will visit Joe Biden in the White House next season.
