Suárez Navarro was immediately inundated with well-wishes from the tennis world, including from countrywomen Garbiñe Muguruza and Paula Badosa, who wrote her congratulations on the growing family.

A seven-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist, Suárez Navarro became a fan favorite over the decade she spent in the upper echelons of the women’s game, winning two WTA titles and reaching the 2014 Roland Garros doubles semifinals with Muguruza.

She had planned to make 2020 her final season on tour, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed her plans and a Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosed threatened to derail them entirely.
