The two had begun working together prior to the 2021 season before splitting this July, with Pliskova bringing Leos Friedl on as coach. Having needed to delay the start of the season with injury, she improved her play during the North American summer hard-court swing, reaching the quarterfinals of the US Open.
Bajin had started working with Jelena Ostapenko just before the season finished. He’s the former coach of Naomi Osaka and Victoria Azarenka, and was also a hitting partner for Serena Williams.
Pliskova ended 2022 outside of the Top 30, snapping a six-year streak of finishing inside the Top 10.
